(SEATTLE, WA) Express Imaging Systems, LLC, a leading developer of digital imaging technology and solutions for the photo processing industry, announced that at PMA 2004 it will make available for sale the new Europa line of ultra high speed photographic printers for exposing silver halide 3R, 4R and 5R paper at less than half the price of the competition.

For the first time in this industry, Express Imaging Systems has combined the latest in LED and LCD technology to produce a high throughput, high resolution printer which sets new benchmarks for resolution, footprint and serviceability. At 480 dpi, Europa has 55% greater resolution than the current state of the art for high speed printers. Europa also eliminates the downtime and expense of replacing lasers.

Keith Miller, President of Express Imaging Systems commented, "We believe silver halide will continue to be the low cost leader for some time to come as digital camera and cell phone print fulfillment growth accelerates. The Europa printer complements our high speed film scanning, image enhancement and integration software systems forming a complete digital solution for wholesale and online photofinishers.”

Europa’s mechanical simplicity is one of its greatest features. The paper is exposed while stationery eliminating any of the complexities of synchronizing the scrolling of images to the movement of paper. Additionally, its parallel nature of exposure allows for more opportunity to enhance the throughput versus the serial nature of a laser exposure system, which at 20,000 prints per hour, is approaching the limit of silver halide’s ability to respond.

The Europa printer is a part of the larger Express System which includes the Intelligent Image Enhancement (i2e) component and full support for generation and application of ICC profiles. The Express Scan line of film scanners is also supported in this system to produce high quality digital prints from film.
First production units are projected to be available in the summer of 2004. Europa produces 480 dpi prints at a rate of 10,000 prints per hour, upgradeable to 20,000 prints per hour within the following year.

Come see this exciting new product along with the other components of our Express System at booth Q196 at PMA 2004.
