Europa Printer Wins DIMA Digital Printer Shoot-Out

March 3, 2005 Seattle, WA – Express Imaging Systems, a leading developer of digital imaging technologies, announced that its latest product, the Europa 10 high speed digital printer, took 1st place in its class at the 10th Annual DIMA (Digital Imaging Marketing Association) Shoot-Out held at the 2005 PMA (Photo Marketing Association) trade show.
The DIMA Shoot-Out is held every year at PMA. In 2005, DIMA added a new category for RA4 digital printers, which are used in high volume centralized photofinishing labs. Printers that qualified in the RA4 Digital Printer class were the EIS (Express Imaging Systems) Europa 10, Imaging Solutions’ Fast Print, and the Agfa dPrint. The average speed of these high volume printers is between 10,000 and 20,000 prints per hour. Prints from the Europa 10 and the FastPrint were submitted to the competition.

“In 2001, we launched a high speed digital film scanner using an array of LED’s, establishing an expertise in harnessing this light source. The color science developed in producing hundreds of film scanners contributed to our ability to commercialize a high speed printer using an LED backlight,” stated Keith Miller, CEO of Express Imaging Systems, LLC.

The Europa 10 took 1st place due to its high resolution LED/LCD exposure engine. Prints were judged based on neutral gray balance reproduction, saturation, shadow saturation, overall tonality and detail, highlights and specular highlights, flesh tones, hue shift and text, resulting in an overall grade. Prints for the competition were made from a demanding high resolution digital file created by PMA.

The Europa 10 has the lowest cost of ownership of any digital printer. Features, such as compatibility with industry standard paper cassettes, a fast and easy color management system with integrated ICC profile software, and a Windows XP interface, mean that the Europa integrates easily into any existing workflow. The environmentally friendly MEK and/or solvent-free thermal back-printer will run for weeks between roll changes without fogging the equipment or requiring expensive clean-up.
